Phipps Winter Show 2008

This past weekend I went to Phipps and shot a few pictures.  Erin also
grabbed the camera from me and shot a few herself so I can't take
credit for all of them.  Anyway you can check them out on our flickr page.  I also recommend everyone to go check out the show.

Weather Data and a New Roof

The weather data for my weather station has not been updated in about 2 months, but there really is a good reason for this.  We got a new roof.  So how does getting a new roof mess up getting up-to-date weather data to my page on Weather Underground?  It goes something like this:

Firewood

I have a fireplace and love to use it in the winter, however I don't have the space to store wood over the summer in order to properly dry it without it looking like it is an eyesore.  So what do I do?  I turn to craigslist and search for firewood.  Last year I burnt a face-cord worth of wood and it was great wood.  Very dry and burned extremely well.  I tried to find the number of the person that I ordered from last year to get some more wood this year but I could not locate it.

Moving Blogs

Today I decided to close my blog on VOX and consolidate it down to just here on PittsBLOGh.com.  I hope that this will be a catalyst for to start blogging a little bit more, but that is doubtful considering my last attempts at this.

Pirates Not Completely Awful

Location(s)

PNC Park

Last week Bob invited the wife and I to attend a Pittsburgh Pirates game since he won some tickets from a charity event that he went to.  I have to say it was a gorgeous evening at PNC Park which always makes the experience much better.

Pittsburgh BBQ - Where is it?

I have been sitting here watching Food Network all day and have been getting this HUGE hankering for some real honest BBQ.  Does anyone know of a good, no....great, local BBQ joint?  I am talking anywhere in the Pittsburgh area.  I just want some good BBQ.  I don't care if it is ribs, chicken thighs, biscuit,  or pulled pork.  I need a fix and don't know where to find it with out firing up the barbie myself!

Eating Local

To go along with my post, The Hunt for Made in America,  in believing that we should doing more locally, I have decided to attempt to eat as much as possible from local restaurants.  What do I consider local restaurants?   I am talking your one-of-a-kind greasy spoon diner, the neighborhood pizzaria,  a local watering hole, even the fancy-schmancy places on Mt.

A Beautiful Day in the 'Burgh

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day to spend outside in Pittsburgh.  The wife washed and vacuumed both of our cars.  I took down the firewood rack and dismantled it for the summer.  I also trimmed our ornamental grasses since they should start growing soon.  Since my wife is the one with the green thumb she couldn't resist doing a little gardening herself and  made some planter arrangements with some pansies that she acquired.

The Hunt for Made in America

Over the past few years I have been getting more and more concerned about the lack of manufacturing in the United States.  This, for me, was brought into glaring light this past week.  The simple task of looking for a new pair of shoes turned into a major project requiring way too much time spent on researching who in the hell actually manufactures shoes in the United States.  I know this is a place to blog about Pittsburgh, but I still believe that this is relevant and can be applied on a more local level and will hopefully make you think and influence your buying habits.

The CSA Experiment

Since my wife and I are new to the area we actually read some of the publications that get sent to our house to find new places to try and see what opportunities there may be out there.  We browse through them while eating breakfast (you can only read the back of those cereal boxes so many times ya know) and during lunch together on the weekends.

Last Fire of the Year

It is a sad day as I sit here writing this blog entry enjoying the last
fire of this year.  I have finally used almost all of the wood that I
had bought earlier this year and will have it all used by the end of
the night.  Why is this sad?  Well I love the winter, the cold temps,
the snow, the enjoying sitting beside a nice warm fire.  So it is nice
to get enjoy the fire one last time and sad knowing it is last time for
this year.

Jury Duty

Location(s)

Ok...so I moved just outside of Pittsburgh and have lived in Allegheny County for a total of 8 months and I have already been summoned and selected for jury duty.  How lucky am I?  Over the course of the past few days I have compiled some tips that I would like to share.

I was selected for a Civil Case in the Court of Common Pleas.  This is located on the 7th floor of the City County Building on Grant Street.

Wishing For...

For a while I have been looking for site that would do a gift registry that was not limited to a specific site.  For instance, Amazon, has very nice gift registry...but it is limited to Amazon and Amazon stores.  So I went looking today and found boxedup
This is a very nice site that allows you to add products from any
online store to your wish list.  You can add product pictures, tags,
and even tell who is allowed to view your lists.  If you want to find
